Undetectable HIV

For someone living with HIV, ‘viral load’ refers to the amount of HIV circulating in the blood. Viral load is measured by a blood test and can range from below the level of detection (undetectable) to several million copies if the person is not on treatment.

Sacred Grounds: Reflecting on Life and Legacy at the AIDS Memorial Garden

40 Years On - Victoria sees a drop in HIV diagnoses amid COVID-19 pandemic

In the lead up to World AIDS Day 2021, Victoria records its lowest quarterly total of HIV diagnoses in 20 years. While likely impacted by the restrictions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Thorne Harbour Health emphasises the ongoing need for HIV testing.Last week Victoria’s Department of Health reported 34 news cases of HIV for the third quarter of 2021, bringing the January to September total to 120 cases. Thorne Harbour CEO Simon Ruth welcomes the news.

Closure of Victoria’s Longstanding Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry

Only days after World AIDS Day, Australia’s oldest HIV/AIDS organisation, Thorne Harbour Health, is incredibly disappointed by the news of CatholicCare Victoria’s decision to discontinue its longstanding HIV/AIDS Ministry.The service provided vital support and advocacy for people living with or affected by HIV regardless of religious belief or background. The decision follows the retirement of the ministry’s longstanding coordinator Marg Hayes who led the service for more than 20 years.
