Autumn 2019 Newsletter

Are you LGBTIQA+? Do you have a disability? The LGBTIQA+ Disability Collective is launching a self-advocacy alliance, and they want to know what is important to other LGBTIQA+ individuals living with a disability.

Power to Prevent: Urgent Actions Needed to Stop Sexual Harassment at Work
Thorne Harbour Health has joined with a diverse group of more then 100 organisations, unions, researchers, peak bodies, health professionals and lawyers who have come together to say we need to do more to stop sexual harassment in workplaces. Our organisations and research efforts see the effects of sexual harassment on people around Australia every day and how our systems are not working to respond to the issues.

Two Winners for Film Competition
The votes have been counted, and it's a tie! Two filmmakers, Sam McGowan & Millie Hayes, were announced as winners for the Keep the Vibe Alive film competition at this week's 2019 Melbourne Queer Film Festival Program Launch.

Our friends at Queerspace, City of Melbourne, and Carers Victoria are hosting a free group for carers who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual and other diverse sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTIQA+).

2019 Hypothetical - Loose Talk in Public Places
On Tuesday 22 January, we hosted our fifth annual Hypothetical as part of Midsumma Festival. Performed live at Federation Square, this year's Hypothetical "Loose Lips in Public Places" saw our first all-queer panel navigate a fictional story line as it explored a range of contemporary social issues impacting our LGBTI and PLHIV communities.

HIV Futures 9
HIV Futures is a survey about the health and wellbeing of PLHIV. They want to hear from PLHIV all over Australia. HIV Futures is an important project. It provides information to help governments, clinical services and community groups plan programs and policy.

The Ban on 'Amyl'
Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) recently postponed its decision on whether or not to change the law around alkyl nitrites (the active ingredient in 'amyl' or 'poppers'). Currently, the TGA is conducting public consultations into the proposed amendments that could see amyl recategorised as a 'prohibited substance'.
