HIV/STI Test - PRONTO!

Book an Appointment at PRONTO!

What does PRONTO! offer?

HIV/STI Testing

Monday to Saturday in Abbotsford. Friday in St Kilda.

Tests are done by Peer Test Facilitators. These people are not doctors or nurses and they can only provide a Rapid HIV Test and a STI (sexually transmitted infection) screen.

A standard STI screen includes testing for:

  • HIV and syphilis serology (blood test)
  • Chlamydia and gonorrhea (self collected oral swab, anal swab and urine test)

If you know you have an STI or are experiencing symptoms, please select "STI treatment" when booking.

PrEP Dr (PrEP Clinic and STI Treatment)

Our PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) Clinic is operated by doctors and nurses who can prescribe PrEP and treatment for STIs. Some treatments may have a cost, and the doctor or nurse practitioner will explain these to you.

PRONTO! PrEP Clinic uses a mixed billing model for doctor and nurse consultations. We bulk bill all patients with current, Australian issued:

  • Health Care Concession Cards
  • Low Income Concession Cards
  • Disability Pension Cards
  • Eligible DVA cards
  • Seniors Concession Cards

PRONTO! is a peer service created to support communities at high risk of HIV including men who have sex with men and trans & gender diverse people. You may be denied a free Rapid HIV test if you are not a member of these communities.

How a Rapid HIV Test Works

  • The Rapid HIV test is a finger prick blood test that only needs a small amount of blood, with results in 20 minutes.
  • A Rapid HIV Test may not detect HIV that is recently acquired. The window period for the test is three months (12 weeks). This means that the test may not detect HIV that you got in the last three months.
  • The Rapid HIV Test is not accurate for people who have taken PEP or PrEP within the past 3 months.
