Stop by our Red Ribbon Workshop in partnership with VACCHO and make your very own Victorian red ribbon to wear on World AIDS Day.
You'll also have the chance to hear a little bit about the legacy of our community response to HIV and AIDS and how VACCHO and Thorne Harbour work together to support Rainbow Mob. We will have tables and materials set up to make red ribbons to wear.
What is the Red Ribbon?
The Red Ribbon has become the global symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness. First worn in 1991 by the Visual AIDS Group in New York, the following year the uniquely Victorian Red Ribbon was created by Brent Lacey. While it was cheaper to produce, the unique shape offered another more significant point of difference - the inverted 'V' design is to allow the ribbons to be turned upside down a create a 'V' for 'Victory' the day a cure for HIV is discovered.
What is VACCHO?
The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) is the peak body representing Aboriginal health services in Victoria, dedicated to advancing health and cultural safety for Aboriginal communities through self-determination and community-led programs. In supporting Rainbow Mob, VACCHO provides services tailored for LGBTQIA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, promoting inclusive, affirming care and celebrating diversity within their communities.
This event is FREE. There's no need to register, simply show up on the day.
