Join Living Positive Victoria and Latrobe University as we report findings from our Australian-first study into the experiences of trans and gender diverse people living with HIV.

In an Australian first, this qualitative study investigated the experiences of trans and gender diverse people living with HIV, focusing on Victoria. It included experiences of navigating health and support services, social connection, identity, and belonging. The study was a joint project between the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (La Trobe University), Living Positive Victoria, Transgender Victoria and Equinox (Thorne Harbour Health). Its findings and recommendations should be used to improve clinical and support services, research, and program development for trans and gender diverse people living with HIV.

About the event

Our launch event will report main findings from the study, with a focus on:

  • The negotiation of gender and HIV status
  • Barriers and enablers to positive and affirming clinical and social care
  • Social connection, community and belonging

It will feature a presentation from Dr Percy Gurtler (report lead author) and panel discussion with lived experience and community partner members from the project advisory group, moderated by Graham Brown.

This is a hybrid event, and can be attended in-person at the La Trobe City Campus or on Zoom. Afternoon tea will be provided. La Trobe City Campus is fully wheelchair accessible.

This research was conducted by the Australian Research Centre In Sex Health and Society (La Trobe University), commissioned by Living Positive Victoria and funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health.
