Why Volunteer with Us?

Volunteers have been the heart of our work since our formation in 1983. Founded by volunteers, our organisation has delivered vital health services for over 40 years. Read more about Our History. Today, over 250 active volunteers help with the day-to-day work of our organisation. Without their support, we would not be able to provide many of the programs, activities and services valued by our clients and community. By joining our volunteer network, you become a part of this legacy of care, compassion, and empowerment.

At Thorne Harbour Health, many of our volunteers identify as LGBTIQ+ themselves, fostering a strong sense of community. Volunteering with us not only allows you to give back but also provides a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded people and be part of a supportive and affirming environment. We encourage all our volunteers to include their work on professional CVs and resumes, and we’re happy to provide references to potential employers.

Volunteering with Thorne Harbour Health is more than just giving your time—it’s a chance to build friendships and find community.

Generally, volunteers don’t get paid because they’re offering their time and skills for free. Of course, the skills you learn through volunteering – even soft skills like teamwork and communication – can be useful in a professional setting. But the true rewards of volunteering are priceless. The joy of helping others and fostering lasting friendships makes every moment worthwhile.
