What is DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Training?
DEI Training equips individuals and organisations with the knowledge and tools to foster diverse, equitable and inclusive environments. For health professionals and service providers, this means developing culturally safe, affirming practices that support the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ clients.
At Thorne Harbour Health, our DEI Training focuses on:
- Building understanding of LGBTIQ+ identities, experiences, and terminology.
- Addressing the impacts of stigma, discrimination, and minority stress.
- Supporting organisations to implement inclusive policies and practices.
- Improving service delivery outcomes through cultural safety and respect.
Why Do We Need DEI?
LGBTIQ+ communities often face significant barriers when accessing healthcare and support services. These barriers can include unconscious bias, lack of cultural understanding, and systemic exclusion. Without deliberate action, organisations risk perpetuating these challenges.
DEI Training helps by:
- Enhancing workforce confidence in delivering inclusive, respectful care.
- Reducing health disparities and improving client outcomes.
- Meeting compliance obligations under anti-discrimination and human rights legislation.
- Building safer, more welcoming environments for both clients and staff.
