10 New Cases
After a lull earlier this year, Victoria has seen a recent jump in mpox cases — with 10 new infections reported in Melbourne in the past month. Importantly, 9 of these were locally acquired, meaning mpox is once again circulating in our communities.
Attending a sex-on-premises venue (like a gay sauna) or an event where sex is happening carries a higher risk of transmission. With plenty of parties on over the Halloween weekend, now’s the time to protect yourself and others.
💉 Get Vaccinated
The best protection against mpox is two doses of the vaccine. Several of the recent cases were either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.
👀 Check for Symptoms
Mpox can cause a rash or lesion anywhere on the body, but early symptoms can look like a cold or flu — including fever, chills, tiredness, or headache.
If you’re planning a big weekend or attending events where sex might happen, get your second dose before you go — and check yourself after. Relying on herd immunity isn’t enough.
