Everyone is hanging out for a cure to HIV, right? Well, it's not that simple. Many people cannot wait for a cure for very obvious health reasons. And then there are those hardcore HIV activists who wear their HIV on their sleeve, and a change from being a boldly positive person back to HIV negative would be, well, daunting!.
We will hear from Craig Burnett of Living Positive Victoria and the Melbourne HIV Cure Consortium alongside Brent Clifton of the National Association People With HIV Australia (NAPWHA) to set the scene and help kick off the discussion. We will be joined again by our friends the HIV Long Term Survivors Network, based in San Francisco.
We will discuss the many issues when we think of an HIV cure. Questions such as how close are we to a cure and what kind of cure are we talking about or do we want? Will we need to temporarily stop taking our medications, the very thing that's keeping us alive? What happens after a cure, will we need to go on PrEP, which is essentially 'meds' to stop getting HIV again?
Taking Charge - HIV & Ageing is a joint project of Thorne Harbour Health & Living Positive Victoria
