We’re proud to have our Family Violence team at Thorne Harbour Health presenting at the conference, exploring the intersection of forced displacement and family violence for LGBTIQ+ communities.
A 2023 FDPN report found that while 60% of forcibly displaced LGBTIQ+ people in Australia experienced violence, only 14% sought support from family violence or sexual assault services. This critical gap calls for better practitioner responses, systemic support, and community education.
Our session will focus on:
- Understanding how family violence and seeking asylum can intersect
- Exploring the connections between interpersonal and systemic violence
- Identifying and responding to violence using a power and control analysis
- Mapping relevant supports for practitioners and community members
Through case studies and practical tools, we’ll explore the ongoing need for systemic, intersectional approaches to family violence response.
