Counselling for Women

In fact, many of the counsellors here at Thorne Harbour Health are women themselves - all of whom are sensitive to the needs of our LGBTI communities.

What can a counsellor offer you?

All of our counsellors are highly trained and understand the issues that can affect us all, especially when we are under a lot of pressure, such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Drug or alcohol concerns
  • Relationship issues
  • Social isolation
  • Work related stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem

How we stand out from other services is that we also understand the issues surrounding sexuality, stigma and discrimination. We are aware of the difficulties that LGBTIQ women experience and we can support you to find ways of coping with those issues and creating a plan for change in whichever direction you want to go.

As well as one-on-one counselling, we currently offering a support group for LGBTIQ women who are concerned about their drinking, especially if there is an underlying issue of depression or anxiety and the alcohol is helping you cope. This group aims to help you commit to changing your drinking habits and to develop new ways of coping with stress. If you’d like to know more about this group then call (03) 9865 6700 and ask about the Drink Limits group.

And if you're unsure of your gender, sex or sexuality, and you think that counselling might help you with your current issues, then call us on (03) 9865 6700.
