SAMESH is here to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the health and wellbeing of our gender, sex, and sexually diverse communities in South Australia. How do we do it? We use targeted health campaigns, community education, training, peer support, health services, and so much more to equip our communities with the information and resources they need to take control of their health and wellbeing. Plus, we recognise the importance of making sure our communities are socially connected. We’re stronger together afterall. Here’s an overview of just some of the things we do at SAMESH.

HIV Prevention

Hundreds of Australians are still diagnosed every year. Thankfully, there are more tools for HIV prevention than ever before including: condoms, PEP, PrEP and an undetectable viral load. While the majority of new diagnoses in Australia are among men who have sex with other men, the reality is that HIV can affect any of us. So it’s important for everyone to know how to prevent HIV.

SAMESH delivers health promotion campaigns, safe sex packs, workshops, and training.

Workshops

We know that whether it’s coming out or being diagnosed with HIV, sometimes it can help to talk with people face-to-face and work through stuff together. For that reason, we’ve started up some helpful workshops. Why not check out Stepping Out or Phoenix - two of our workshops helping connect you with likeminded individuals?

Sexual Health

Understanding sexual health is important for everyone. We’re here to help with practical ways you can use to take control of your sexual health. Whether you want to learn more about testing or get a better understanding of STIs and how to prevent them, we’re here for you. We offer education and training as well as run health promotion campaigns for our communities. We also like to make sure everyone has easy access to condoms, lube, and other sexual health resources.

Living with HIV

With advances in treatment, HIV is now a chronic manageable infection. Someone diagnosed with HIV today can expect to have a long and healthy life. We’re here to help ensure people living with HIV are empowered to take control of their health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, we also recognise that people living with HIV still face stigma and discrimination. Those challenges can make staying well difficult. That’s why we offer counselling, peer support, workshops, leadership development, and more for people living with HIV.

Being part of a healthy community can be a great way to ensure the ongoing wellbeing of the people that are a part of it. So we’re always looking for ways we can support community groups, social initiatives, and teams that are bringing together our gender, sex, and sexually diverse communities, whether that be through community grants or by providing a community hub for meeting at in the centre of Adelaide

Where would we be without our amazing volunteers? We’re tackling some big things, and we can’t do it without the time and energy our volunteers bring to SAMESH everyday. Our SAMESH volunteers get involved at various levels — from lending a hand at events to training to facilitate rapid HIV testing. If you are interested in volunteering with us, we want to hear from you.
